The Matchplay Championship

The Golfers Club launched the Matchplay Championship tournament in 2004. With the event being open to members of The Golfers Club and also to non-members, it has now become the largest amateur event in Europe. The Men’s pairs and Mixed pairs events cost just £25 per person to enter (£50 per team) yet provide what surely must be the most attractive prize in the amateur game. AND NEW for 2011/12 is a Men’s Singles event also just £25 per person.

The 40 Grand Finalists receive an unbelievable prize. A week’s all-expenses paid golfing holiday in Dubai, staying at the sumptuous Marriott Dubai Harbour Hotel with the event itself being played down the fairways at the world famous Els Club, Dubai. Not bad at all for a £25 investment!

The event consists of qualifying rounds against teams/individuals in your local area followed by Regional Final events held at prestigious venues in the UK and Ireland. The winning 40 players from the Regional Finals then qualify through to the Grand Final in Dubai.

What makes the Matchplay Championship so appealing is that the Regional Finals and the Grand Final is covered by the Sky Sports cameras which culminates with a 2-hour programme being broadcast across the Sky Sports network. With the Sky Sports cameras following you down the 18th fairway, it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for an amateur golfer to feel like a Tour Pro. The media exposure the event now attracts, with the association of the Daily Telegraph and the involvement of many other major golf brands ensures that this is the one amateur event that is not to be missed.

The event itself sees many teams re-enter year after year, not because they were fortunate enough to reach a Regional Final or even the Grand Final, but because of the wonderful experience of playing in the event.
